A man died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle in Vancouver, police said.
Vancouver police officers responded around 9 p.m. to the area of Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard and 54th Street after a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian. Police said the driver was traveling westbound on Fourth Plain Boulevard approaching the intersection when he saw a man walking in his lane.
The driver did not have time to stop before hitting the pedestrian, who died from his injuries. Police said the driver was cooperative and that impaired driving was not a factor in the crash. Police have not identified the man or the driver.
A passerby told police they saw the same pedestrian walking not far from the crash location and had to swerve to avoid hitting him.
Police have not identified the pedestrian or the driver as the department’s traffic unit is continuing to investigate.
