Ignited by 10 kills from Madi Engel and a collection of players with at least six digs, the Trojans came away with a 25-23, 18-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-9 victory over the Mules to win the tiebreaking match to secure second place in the Class 1B South league.

The two teams split in the regular season that led to a third and decisive match to determine the runner-up in South Bend. Pe Ell (11-7, 10-3 South) will be the two seed in the 1B District 4 bracket and host Willapa Valley on Monday night.

The Trojans rallied down 2-1 and needed extra points in the fourth to force a decisive fifth set. They outlasted Wahkiakum in the race to 15.

Pe Ell’s Brookelynn King dished out 13 assists and notched five kills. Peyton Zock registered six blocks and four kills while Ruby Magruder paced the back row with nine digs.

“It was a high stress match and we battled hard,” Trojans head coach Jill Engel said. “Our outsides cranked it up and put on a show.”
