The Pe Ell volleyball team won its first league title since 2012 on Saturday, winning a tiebreaker match against Wahkiakum in Castle Rock 18-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-21 to claim the 1B Columbia Valley League title.
“We had a slow start early in our first set but we were able to straighten it out and play the way we know how to,” Pe Ell coach Jill Engel said. “Wahkiakum has a really great defense and it was tricky for us to find a way through at times. We started connecting and were able to get it done.”
Maisy King had a great night at the net, posting 11 kills and nine blocks to go with six digs and as assist, while Karli Phelps dished out 24 assists to go with eight digs, five kills, three blocks, and no service errors.
Madi Engel also didn’t miss a serve, and she finished with eight receptions, five kills, four digs, and an assist. Peyton Zock tallied six blocks, six kills, and a dig, and Sophia Milanowski posted 23 digs and 14 receptions.
Bailey Cox was stellar from the service line, tallying nine service points and five aces while also added three digs, a kill, a block, and a reception, and Ruby Magruder logged nine receptions and five digs.
As the CVL’s No. 1 seed, Pe Ell (14-4) will host Ocosta in a district quarterfinal on Monday.
