Pe Ell drops first league loss to Wahkiakum

The legacy of Cathlamet being a tough place to play only heightened on Thursday night. For the first time this season, the Trojans’ late push wasn’t enough in the Mules’ 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 15-13 triumph at home.

If the same tiebreaker from a year ago repeats, then the two sides will meet again a third time to determine the Class 1B Columbia Valley regular season champion. Pe Ell (11-4, 7-1 CV) swept Wahkiakum at home last month.

“The girls played hard and really gave them a hard time,” Trojans head coach Jill Engel said. “They should be proud of their play and the adjustments they made.”

Karli Phelps dished out 20 assists and posted 16 digs, both team-bests. Peyton Zock led the attack with nine kills while Maisy King added seven. Pe Ell ends the season with back-to-back home games versus Oakville and Columbia Adventist.
