Pair of professional bowlers hosting Centralia clinic, meeting with fans at Fairway Lanes in April

Having competed on the Professional Bowling Association (PBA) Tour since 2012, Edward “EJ” Tackett will be joined by fellow PBA bowler Marshall Kent — who is originally from Yakima and has been on the PBA tour since 2014 — to host a clinic for local bowlers on Tuesday, April 30, at Fairway Lanes in Centralia.

The clinic will be held at the bowling alley from 5 to 8 p.m. Fairway Lanes is located at 1501 S. Gold St. in Centralia.

Clinic spaces are limited to 70 people and attendance costs $125 per person. As of Monday morning, 19 clinic spots still remained and were available on a first-come, first-served basis. Along with the bowling clinic, attendees will have the chance to talk to Tackett and Kent, take photos and get autographs.

To secure a spot, either visit Fairway Lanes or call the bowling alley at 360-736-4100.

Once all 70 clinic spots are taken, no more will be sold. This event is open to only those who purchased a clinic ticket.

Originally from Indiana, Tackett was named the Harry Golden PBA Rookie of the Year during the 2012 season. Throughout his career, he has won 17 total PBA Tour titles, along with four PBA major titles, according to the PBA’s website.

Tackett is one of only nine bowlers who have a PBA Triple Crown on their belts — earned by winning the PBA World Championship, PBA Tournament of Champions and the U.S. Open in the same season — and was named the Chris Schenkel PBA Player of the Year in 2016 and 2023.

He has been called a “unicorn” due to him being a right-handed bowler using a unique one-handed cranker-style delivery. Tackett’s technique has made him famous within the sport as he’s able to produce ball rotation rates on-par or faster than most two-handed bowlers, according to a GQ Sports article.

Kent now resides in Michigan and rolls on both the PBA Tour and the World Bowling Tour. Like Tackett, Kent was named the Harry Golden PBA Rookie of the Year in 2014.

He has a total of six PBA Tour titles along with four PBA Regional Tour titles, according to the PBA’s website, with his most recent win coming this year at the PBA Illinois Classic.

In 2022, he also won the PBA Roth/Holman Doubles Championship with Tackett as his partner.
