Miles Page knew he needed a pin to tie Centralia’s dual meet against Aberdeen on Thursday. Heading into the final match of the night at 157, the Tigers trailed by six, and a pin was the only way that they could force a tiebreak.

In his final home dual at Centralia, Page came through, pinning his opponent in 1:36 to lock things up at 36.

“We’re super proud of him,” Centralia coach Scott Phillips said. “On senior night, he got to seal the deal for us. He really came through well.”

After discussions between the coaches and referee, who brought out the rulebook, Centralia was given the win via the first tiebreak: They had no unsportsmanlike conduct penalties assessed during the match, while Aberdeen had one.

“It was a pretty gutsy performance,” Phillips said, while noting that even in losses, multiple Tigers avoided being pinned. “Giving up threes and fours instead of sixes, that makes all the difference in the world. We’re proud of them.”

Among the other victors for Centralia on Thursday were Leonardo Alcantara-Leonor, who pinned his opponent in 4:42 at 175, and Ronin Blair won by tech fall at 215 by scoring 15 points in just 3:10.

“He’s a first-year wrestler,” Phillips said of Blair. “He has wrestled really well, beat some really good kids, and looked dominant tonight against a really good wrestler.”

Hunter Van Der Hoff won by major decision at 132, and Dobah Denetclaw pinned his opponent in the third round at 138.

Lafel Denetclaw trailed 4-0 entering the third round of his matchup at 144, but rallied back with a takedown and near fall to take the lead and eventually won 6-4. Two matches later, Page won at 157.

The Tigers will head to the Rubber Chicken Tournament in Kalama on Saturday, and they’ll be at Black Hills for their final dual of the season next Thursday, Jan. 30.

Phillips said they’ll use those matchups to continue to fine tune things as they prepare for the postseason.

“It’s just about eliminating mistakes and being a little bit more aggressive,” Phillips said. “We just don’t like to see them make the same mistakes over and over, and we seem to be cleaning them up every week. So I’m pretty happy with that.”
