The Labor Day weekend Packwood Flea Market kicked off Friday and runs through Monday.

The event attracts hundreds of vendors and thousands of shoppers.

Visitors can browse antiques, novelties, handcrafted artisan gifts and food options. The Packwood Flea Market is considered to be one of the largest flea markets in the Western United States.

The town also hosts a flea market over Memorial Day weekend.

“It’s the biggest event in the history of this small town,” Ron Blankenship, president of the Packwood Improvement Club, said in a news release from Lewis County. “If you need to find something this is the place to be this weekend.”

“The natural beauty of this town has kept me here for the last 60 years or so,” added Lewis County Commissioner Lee Grose, who lives in Packwood. “People here are friendly, kind.”

Packwood is expected to see additional tourism from events such as the flea market, according to the county.

The community is the focus of a sub-area plan, which is intended to guide and manage growth and future development.

“The plan says where growth should be concentrated and how the things that the community cares about can be preserved and protected,” according to Lewis County Senior Planner Mindy Brooks. “If you like the outdoors, Packwood is a great place.”

Anticipate heavy traffic on U.S. Highway 12 during the holiday weekend.

“The sheriff’s office will have a visible presence in the Packwood area throughout the weekend and we are asking everyone who attends to pack their patience and travel safe,” said Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza.
