Overturned chicken truck on I-5 stalls traffic as live birds spill onto roadway

A semi-truck full of live chickens overturned on an Interstate 5 ramp in Ridgefield Wednesday morning, causing a poultry pileup that shut down the road.

The Washington State Department of Transportation first reported the crash at 9:42 a.m. on the Exit 16 on-ramp off of Northbound I-5 near the Ilani Casino Resort.

Some feathers have been ruffled, as WSDOT has told drivers to expect delays and take alternative routes while its crews, Washington State Police and animal control work to clean up the crash and collect the chickens.

Photo and video footage captured from the fowl incident show chickens huddled on the ground around the overturned semitruck. The crates used to carry the birds were also overturned in the crash.

No injuries have been reported from the crash, and Washington officials have not yet stated where the chickens were headed.
