A Gresham, Oregon, police officer was arrested Thursday after being indicted on 56 charges including rape and sexual abuse of an underage girl.
Hector Carranza, 36, is being held without bail at the Clackamas County Jail. He was hired by the Gresham Police Department in 2014.
The allegations are not related to on-duty conduct and are not tied to anyone Carranza met through a criminal investigation, Multnomah County prosecutors said. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office declined to provide additional information.
The indictment reveals few details about the accusations but alleges Carranza engaged in sexual acts with the girl between 2014 and 2017.
The charges, all felonies, include multiple counts of rape, sodomy, sexual abuse, luring a minor, using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct and encouraging child sexual abuse.
Gresham police said they received a complaint against Carranza in November. He was placed on paid administrative leave and the department asked Oregon State Police to investigate, police said in a statement.
