Oregon man gets 10 years for climbing into occupied beds during late-night burglary spree

A 38-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday for breaking into a Beaverton apartment and climbing into bed with a woman while her children slept nearby.

Christopher Rydman of Beaverton entered the unlocked apartment shortly before 11 p.m. in October 2025, lay down next to the woman and began touching her, prosecutors said. When she woke up, she ran from the room while her son called 911, prompting Rydman to flee.

About a half-mile away, Rydman stopped on the porch of a second home, leading to another 911 call. While officers responded to the first two reports, Rydman entered a third unlocked residence and climbed into bed — without pants — with a woman and her boyfriend.

The couple reportedly woke up “shocked” to find a pantless Rydman in bed with them, according to investigators. The boyfriend then forcibly escorted Rydman from the home.

Police arrested Rydman a short time later in the street.

Rydman was convicted of sexual abuse, burglary of an occupied dwelling and private indecency.

Court records show he has an extensive criminal history, with more than two dozen sets of charges dating back to 2006, including allegations of theft, criminal mischief and possession of controlled substances.

Rydman is being held at the Coffee Creek Intake Center pending transfer to a state prison, where he will serve his sentence.
