Oregon firefighters seek public’s help after vandals damage wildland fire rig

A Southwestern Polk County Fire District brush rig has been vandalized, and officials are asking the public for help locating the guilty party.

According to SW Polk Fire officials, the person or group who vandalized the wildland fire vehicle destroyed several hundred feet of hose, which now needs to be replaced. A pump was also damaged, but firefighters repaired it.

“Our firefighters depend on this equipment to protect lives, property, and natural resources,” the fire district said in a statement. “Acts of vandalism not only damage valuable emergency equipment but also place an unnecessary financial burden on the community. We appreciate any information that may help identify those responsible.”

The equipment damaged is used for wildland fires and other emergency incidents, according to the district. An estimate of the total cost of the damages wasn’t immediately available.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the vandalism. The fire district and sheriff’s office ask anyone with relevant information to contact either agency.
