Just about all of Lewis County — and a bit of Thurston, Pierce, Grays Harbor and Cowlitz too, for good measure — came to Tiger Town on Friday for the Napavine Tiger Invitational, where a whole host of local wrestlers came away with individual wins.
On the boys’ side, Onalaska took home the team title, with four separate Loggers winning titles. Benito Escalera won first place at 113 — beating teammate Christofer Jaimes in the finals — while Norman Prazak won at 120 and David Locklin won at 150. Marshall Brockway — who goes to Mossyrock but wrestles for Onalaska — took home first place at 285, while Kyle Brockway took third at 175. Steven Gomes (165) and Tommy Hornsby III (285) both finished fourth.
Toledo came in just a couple team points behind Onalaska, with three winners. Carter Swofford won the title at 138, beating W.F. West’s Riley Carter in the finals, while Bomani Birdwell beat Pe Ell’s Blake Burnett in the finals at 165, and Nico Acosta won at 190. Chris Eberle placed fourth at 190 for the Riverhawks.
Elsewhere from Lewis County, W.F. West’s Isaiah Nachatilo was first at 144, while Centralia’s Dashba Denetclas beat W.F. West’s Tommy Caperon in the finals at 157. Napavine earned two titles, with Peyton Hernandez beating W.F. West’s Lewis Allan for first at 126, and Evan Kunkel taking out Toledo’s Bayron Rodriguez for the win at 175.
Adna’s best result on the day came from Cohen Hartley, who placed second at 132. Pe Ell’s Hunter Harris (190) joined Burnett with a second-place finish, while Winlock’s Xavier Sancho-Carrillo (126) and Tumwater’s Carter Criss (113) both finished third.
The girls’ side was similarly loaded, with Tenino winning the team title behind individual wins from Nataliah Chacon (125-130), Dakota Lees (155) and Ynavi Rodriguez (190-200).
Napavine’s Maya Kunkel won at 170, defeating Onalaska’s Delaney Browning.
Centralia’s Jazmin Castorena beat Napavine’s Emily Mendoza in a best-two-out-of-three series at 100-105, and Tumwater’s Wendy Ferrel won at 140-145 in similar fashion over Tenino’s Tamara Snodderly.
W.F. West got second-place finishes from Berkeley Varich (115) and Arlo Phillips (125-130). Winlock’s Hailey Goodrich took third at 115, Pe Ell’s Addyson Holmes was third at 135 and Toledo’s Princess Parcia was third at 170.
