The Onalaska School District has secured a $200,000 Healthy Kids-Healthy Schools Grant to fund the construction of an additional covered play shed for Onalaska Elementary School.
Fencing has gone up around the playground, and construction on the shed will start next week, according to the district in a Monday announcement to its website. Construction will continue through the end of April on the play shed that will give the district’s students more opportunities to play and be active outdoors, even when the weather isn’t ideal.
The Healthy Kids-Healthy Schools Grants come from the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and fund physical education, physical activity and nutrition. The physical education and physical activity category includes, but is not limited to, physical education renovation, indoor or outdoor physical education equipment, playground equipment, covered play areas and related structures and renovations.
