An Onalaska man is facing charges in Lewis County District Court after he allegedly struck a neighbor’s front door with a sword on Monday.

Clifford Lee Stone Jr., 51, is accused of going onto a neighbor’s property with a sword, attempting to open the door and, when the door wouldn’t open, striking it with the sword. He then reportedly fled on foot, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The residents called 911 and deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at approximately 5:10 p.m.

“I certainly never would have thought in a million years that something like this could have happened to me and my family,” one of the residents later posted on Facebook, adding that the last thing Stone told the residents before leaving was “that he was coming back.”

While talking with the residents on Monday, dispatch advised the deputies that Stone was walking down Krueger Road with the sword, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Deputies responded and Mr. Stone appeared (to be) in an altered state and initially would not comply with deputies directives to drop the sword.  They continued de-escalation tactics and he eventually complied,” said Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Field Operations Bureau Chief Dusty Breen in an email to The Chronicle.

Stone was arrested and was booked into the Lewis County Jail just after 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 8. he has since been charged with one count of third-degree malicious mischief for the damage he allegedly did to the neighbor’s door, as well as one count of unlawful carrying or handling of a weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm.

His bail was set at $10,000 as of Friday afternoon.

“I’m giving all the glory to God for keeping us safe and level headed during the ordeal,” the resident posted on Facebook.

“It could have been so much worse.”
