Following 24 minutes of back-and-forth action, the Onalaska boys basketball team put away Toutle Lake with a big fourth quarter to triumph 57-43 Tuesday night.
The Loggers took a 12-4 advantage after one quarter before Toutle Lake, led by post Easton White, came back to make it a one-point game at halftime. White was unstoppable in the third quarter, tallying 11 of his game-high 28 points in the frame to swing the lead in Toutle Lake’s favor.
But Onalaska found a groove offensively in the fourth. Austin Sturza knocked down a pair of key 3-pointers late, and Maddox McKinley also hit a triple in a 22-6 run to close out the victory.
“We wanted to forget about the game against RSB and focus on the first four minutes of the game [against Toutle Lake], and the guys responded,” Onalaska head coach Fred Sturza said. “I was proud of the effort but was even happier with the energy. It was the first game that I felt we really played together. The ball moved, and different guys made big buckets.”
McKinley led the Loggers with 20 points, and Noland Brady added a dozen. Austin Sturza scored eight of his 11 points in the fourth, and Ethan Thayer provided seven.
Onalaska (4-6, 3-4 Central 2B League) has won two straight C2BL games and has two more chances this week as it hosts Rainier (6-5, 4-3 C2BL) Thursday night and Morton-White Pass (0-9, 0-6 C2BL) Friday night.
