Vancouver police shot and killed a male just before midnight Saturday after responding to a report of a disturbance with a weapon at a residence.

Two officers discharged their weapons after a male confronted them with a firearm, the Police Department said in a news release early Sunday morning. The initial call to police had reported a male pointing a firearm at a woman and firing at least one shot inside the home near the 13200 block of N.E. 46th St.

The male was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The two officers, plus a third officer who witnessed the shooting, have been placed on critical incident leave, a normal protocol after police shootings.

The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations will take over the investigation because it involved police.

Cameras that are part of the Police Department’s Body Worn Camera Program and in-car cameras will be reviewed and released at a later date, along with the names of the officers. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will release name of the man who was killed.

The concluded investigation will be forwarded to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
