Oakville pulls away in third for win

After going back and forth in a tight first half at Harry E. Lang Stadium, the Oakville football team nearly pitched a shutout of a second half and found separation for a 40-22 win over Sound Christian.

The Acorns (2-5, 2-3 Southwest 1B) took a slim 26-22 lead into halftime after alternating touchdowns with the Lions, but had gotten the final score of the second quarter on an 80-yard kickoff return by Michel Perron, and followed that with a 44-yard strike from Gio Rodas to Daniel Rodas out of the break. After a defensive stop, Gio Rodas hit Courtney Price for a 55-yard touchdown, and the Acorns had a 24-point lead that they’d keep until SC scored in the final 20 seconds of the game.

Multiple Acorns did damage in multiple phases of the game. Before his touchdown, Perron nearly housed the game’s opening kickoff, taking it to the SC 30-yard line to set up Oakville’s first strike, and he also logged an interception and led the Acorns with 14 tackles. Alongside his touchdown catch, Price picked up a fumbled snap in the second quarter and took it 34 yards back for a defensive score.

Gio Rodas finished with 280 passing yards, 61 rushing yards and four total touchdowns on offense, while racking up nine tacks and an interception on defense. Daniel Rodas had eight catches for 145 yards and Koner Burnett added three for 80, and the two of them both came down with picks on defense.

Oakville will try to stack wins for the first time next week, at Muckleshoot Tribal.
