No injuries were reported in a fire that destroyed a shop in the 1800 block of South Scheuber Road Wednesday morning.

Fire personnel with the Riverside Fire Authority were dispatched to the fire at 5:44 a.m. on April 24, according to Assistant Chief Erik Olson.

The flames were visible from as far away as Interstate 5.

“Basically, when units arrived, the structure was fully involved,” Olson said Thursday.

A horse and a donkey were tied to a lean-to attached to the shop when the fire broke out, but both animals were able to free themselves and were unharmed, Olson said.

No one was inside the shop when crews arrived and no structural damage to nearby structures was reported.

Crews extinguished the fire within a few hours Wednesday morning, clearing the scene at approximately 9 a.m.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but fire investigators have no reason to believe it was “malicious,” Olson said.
