Nicole Hansen appointed to vacancy on Vader City Council

Following the resignation of Vader City Councilor Randy Hall last month due to health concerns, remaining councilors voted unanimously to appoint Vader resident Nicole Hansen to the council vacancy during their first regular meeting of the month on Wednesday, July 2.

Vader Mayor Joe Schey announced Hall’s resignation at the beginning of June. Since then, Hansen — who had already filed to run in this year’s election for Hall’s councilor position — applied to be appointed.

“Thanks for stepping up,” Councilor Mike Parsons said.

Despite being appointed, Hansen will still have to run to retain the position this November.

Schey added the city is still looking for a new volunteer to serve on Vader’s Planning Committee.

“I have talked to some people, and they have turned me down,” Schey said.

Those interested in serving on the Vader Planning Committee do not actually have to live within the city limits, as Schey explained they can live as far as 3 miles outside of city limits and still be eligible to serve.

“We already have two members of the Planning Committee that live outside of the city limits,” Schey added.

The Vader Planning Committee meets on the second Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at Vader City Hall, located at 317 8th St. in Vader.
