The Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new ownership of Hip & Humble Salon.

The public is invited to meet new owner Amanda Kirk at noon Thursday, Jan. 29, at the salon, located at 202 S. Tower Ave. in Centralia.

While the ownership and signage are new, Hip & Humble Salon has been in its current location for more than 30 years. The previous owner, Lisa Lopez, operated the business for 20 years. The ownership transition took place in August 2025, followed by the installation of a new sign and recent interior updates.

Since taking over, Kirk has experienced strong support from fellow Centralia businesses. “Candy from Cosmic Tattoo is painting a mural, Holly from The Shady Lady has done furniture trades, and we’ve been gifted wall art from others,” Kirk said. The salon has become a mini art gallery and embraces a leopard-print and pink theme, creating a fun, quirky and welcoming atmosphere.

Kirk moved to Rochester five years ago with her young daughter to be closer to family. While working as a bartender, she continued cutting and styling hair for family and friends before deciding to pursue cosmetology as a career. She completed cosmetology school two years ago and began her professional career at Hip & Humble Salon.

“My grandmother was a cosmetologist,” Kirk said. “This career path is a bit of a nod to her.”

Lopez, who was looking to make a career change and work from home, approached Kirk about purchasing the salon.

“She saw something in me that felt like a good fit for Hip & Humble,” Kirk said. “Last year, we made it happen.”

Hip & Humble Salon provides hair services for men, women and children and participates in Wigs for Kids, a national program that provides hairpieces to children experiencing hair loss. Clients donating 14 inches or more of hair may participate, with the salon preparing the hair for shipment before it is sent to the organization.

The Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce regularly hosts ribbon-cutting ceremonies to celebrate local businesses that are opening, expanding, rebranding, relocating or reaching other milestones.
