The Tigers junior and runner-up at 132-pounds in Class 1B/2B at Mat Classic garnered a victory at the U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals this week at the FargoDome in North Dakota.

Peyton Hernandez upended Maryland’s Adan Magnas via an 8-0 technical fall in the opening round of the junior Greco-Roman style at 132.

It came after Hernandez went 0-2 in the junior freestyle portion of the tournament a few days earlier. He lost 12-2 and 7-0 after having a bye in the prelim round. Against Magnas, Hernandez had two takedowns and a four-point move to wrap up the win in 1 minute, 36 seconds.

Utah’s Mason Carlson sent Hernandez to the backside of the bracket with a 9-0 loss, then Virginia’s Max Mooney scored two points with under 30 seconds left to snare a 4-3 win and end Hernandez’s week.
