After many years of winning the C2BL at Kalama, John Bates continued his mastery from the sidelines in leading the Tigers to their first league title, plus cap a perfect league record with a 6-0 victory over Forks on Wednesday night.
Bates, in his first year at Napavine, has been pleased with the progress shown by his group from day one of training to regular season finale.
“I’m so proud of the girls,” he said. “Everyone got to play (tonight). We can be a lot better, it takes time. We got a lot of momentum going into the playoffs.”
Hayden Kaut and Hannah Fay each found the back of the net twice. Kaut started the scoring in the ninth minute on a throw-in by Maya Kunkel and Fay scored both of her goals in the 26th and 36th minute, respectively. Grace Pancake tallied a goal in the 44th minute and Kaut put the finishing touches in the 50th minute.
Ellie Gilbert also scored for the Tigers while Taylen Evander notched another clean sheet with three saves. Napavine will play either Toledo or Adna in the No. 1 versus No. 4 matchup next week in the Class 2B District 4 semifinals at Tenino.
