Napavine pulls away to beat Montesano

Posted

The Napavine girls basketball team was in a tight contest at halftime in Montesano on Tuesday, but the Tigers came out the locker room firing to pull away for a 65-46 victory.

Coming into the second half, the Tigers held a six-point lead, but Taylen Evander, Hayden Kaut, and Jessie McCoy combined for all of Napavine’s 23 points in the third to extend the lead to 21.

“Hayden, Jessie and Taylen sparked us in the third quarter,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “We had a flat first half, and the kids responded well in the third. They really got after it.”

That trio went on to finish as the three-highest scorers on the night, as Kaut finished with 18 points, Evander scored 17, and McCoy tallied 14.

Ava Ondong scored nine points, and she was also the only Tiger to make it to the free-throw line on the night. She finished the night 5 for 6 at the line.

Nicholle Valentine scored four points, and Grace Pancake added three.

Napavine (9-3, 1-0 C2BL) returns home for a key C2BL matchup on Wednesday, as Adna will come to town.
