No injuries were reported following a fire that destroyed a Napavine home on Saturday.

Fire crews with Lewis County Fire District 5 in Napavine responded to reports of a residential fire on Koontz Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 9, according to District 5 Chief Dan Mahoney.

Crews responded within one minute of receiving the call, but the fire was fully involved by the time they arrived, according to Mahoney.

“Neighbors said they smelled something burning for a little while but didn’t see anything until the flames started coming out,” Mahoney told The Chronicle on Monday.

Fire crews with Lewis County fire districts 6 in Chehalis, 15 in Winlock and 1 in Onalaska responded alongside District 5. Crews remained on the scene until approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to Mahoney.

The homeowner was not home when the fire began, though the homeowner claimed their cat was inside, according to Mahoney.

The house itself was a total loss.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
