Napavine holds off Toutle Lake, creates chaos atop C2BL

Only through five games in the C2BL and early chaos has consumed the top of the totem pole in baseball.

Behind an early lead and fending off a late comeback, the Tigers triumphed past the Ducks 5-4 on Friday night in Toutle to create a four-way tie for first in the standings alongside Adna and Kalama.

The game was moved to Toutle due to rain in the area. Saturday’s game was played in Napavine.

Napavine (4-1, 4-1 C2BL) was able to get to Oregon State recruit Zach Swanson early, tagging him for four runs – two earned – in the first two innings. Of its five hits, four of them were doubles. Conner Holmes finished with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in.

A key insurance run in the sixth proved to be important as Toutle Lake attempted a comeback with a three-run bottom of the seventh, but Hudson Chambers shut the door on playing extra innings. Beckett Landram added two hits for the Tigers.

“Kids had a really good approach against a great arm,” Napavine head coach Brian Demarest said. “Our pitchers threw strikes and we had good defense behind them.”
