Napavine bounces back with big win at MWP

The Napavine football team got back in the win column on Friday, rebounding from a tough loss up north with a resounding 43-6 win over Morton-White Pass in a C2B North matchup.

The Tigers (5-1, 2-0 C2B North) raced out to a 22-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to touchdown runs from Ashton Demarest, Cayle Kelly and Cael Stanley, and they made it 36-0 before the break. Demarest added another long touchdown run in the third to make it 43-0.

In the fourth quarter, Judah Kelly got the Timberwolves (1-5 ,0-3 C2B North) on the board, but it was much too little and much too late.

“We played well at times, again they exploited us a little bit with the physical matchups,” MWP coach Lee Metcalf said. “They’re in midseason form. They’re a lot to deal with.”

With the bounce back win, the Tigers have still not lost back-to-back games since 2012.

Demarest finished the game with three touchdowns, the third coming on a 22-yard pass to James Grose, while rushing for 101 yards. Brecken Pelletier led the way for the ground game for the T-Wolves, rushing for 63 yards.

Napavine will host Kalama next Friday, while MWP will take on Asotin in a neutral-site game in the Tri-Cities.
