Murder-Suicide Suspected in Vancouver After Two Girls Call 911

Two Vancouver girls called 911 Monday night to report that their stepfather had shot their mother and then himself, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s officials later identified the couple as James Jordan, 45, and Erica Jordan, 46, and said they were married but estranged and that a protection order barred James Jordan from coming within 1,000 feet of Erica Jordan’s home.

Deputies had arrived at the scene near Northeast 42nd Avenue and 56th Street shortly before 11 p.m. to find the girls, ages 12 and 16, outside the home and uninjured.

Inside the residence, James Jordan was dead from an apparent gunshot wound and Erica Jordan was grievously wounded, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. She later died at an area hospital.

Investigators said James Jordan had arrived minutes before the 911 call and forced entry into the home.

Sheriff’s officials cited records showing a series of arrests and protection orders against James Jordan, with the most recent protection order issued last October. He was arrested for violating the order in April, they said.

The shooting is being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to the sheriff’s office. The two girls are staying with other family members.
