The Rainier girls basketball team needed a bit to get going but found the way with plenty of time to spare in the C2BL’s only Monday matchup, downing Morton-White Pass 72-35.

The game stood tied at 15-15 after a quarter of play, but the Mountaineers (5-0, 2-0 C2BL) scored 57 of the game’s final 77 points to roll to a huge lead.

Haleigh Hanson led Rainier with 19 points, with three teammates behind her in double figures. Angelica Askey added 14 points, three steals and six rebounds, Bryn Beckman had a 13-point, 11-board double-double to go along with a team-high five assists, and Janess Blackburn posted 10 points. Brooklynn Swenson came in on eight points, led the Mountaineers with five steals, and also had three assists and five rebounds.

McKenzee Mays had 12 points to lead the Timberwolves (1-2, 1-1 C2BL).

MWP and Rainier will both be back in action Friday, with the T-Wolves hosting Adna in Randle and the Mountaineers heading to Onalaska.
