A 48-year-old motorcyclist died at a Tacoma area hospital Saturday night following a wreck in east Pierce County with two other drivers, according to the Washington State Patrol.

About 8:15 p.m., the Eatonville man was headed west on state Route 162, east of Orting. Meanwhile, two other drivers were headed east on the same highway.

Troopers say the Eatonville man attempted to pass traffic and crossed into the eastbound lanes. He crashed into a Bonney Lake driver, which caused that vehicle to roll onto its top and stop in a ditch, according to State Patrol. The motorcyclist then hit another driver, which sent that car into a power pole.

The motorcyclist was taken to Tacoma General Hospital where he later died, according to State Patrol.

The 22-year-old Bonney Lake driver and his 21-year-old passenger were hurt and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.

The third driver, a 24-year-old Maple Valley man, was not injured.

Following the wreck, the road was blocked for more than three hours.
