It took just one game for Vikings senior Easton Kolb to make a statement back in Class 2B, striking out 10 and launching his first home run of the season in an 8-2 triumph over Rainier on Friday night.
Kolb tossed 100 pitches and danced around four walks plus three hits to come away with the win. He went 2-for-3 at the dish with a double plus the homer for three runs batted in and three runs scored. Mossyrock (1-0, 1-0 C2BL) had just three hits to nine walks, but struck out 17 times.
“We have a lot of stuff to work on,” Vikings head coach Darren Kolb said. “We got to hit the ball, at least seven hits a game.”
Mason Atter had the other hit for Mossyrock while he, Gunnar Callies, Atraewe Brown and Wylde Greisen combined for 10 stolen bases. The Vikings will face the Mountaineers (0-1) in another league contest on Monday.
Rainier’s Hunter Howell, despite five walks, came away with nine strikeouts. The first five hitters in the Mountaineers order recorded all five hits.
