For the second straight year and the third time in four years, the Mossyrock girls basketball team came away with the 1B District 4 title, as the Vikings bested Taholah 46-30 in the district championship game.

Both teams got off to a slow start, as the Vikings (16-6) led just 6-5 after the first. They led by three at the break, but really pulled away in the third quarter.

In that frame, the Vikings outscored the Chitwhins 18-8, pushing their lead to 13 entering the fourth.

“The girls said ‘let’s set the tone, get the job done, and cheer on the boys,’” Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “I’m very proud of this team, but their goal is to get to Spokane, and they are excited to fight for that opportunity at Regionals.”

Chesney Schultz scored six of her 10 points in that frame, and she also drew multiple fouls to put Taholah in foul trouble.

Adyson Barrows and Abbie Lovan also scored 10 points, and Delandy Marshall had a big night on the boards, hauling in 17 rebounds while also logging five points and five steals.

The win preceded the boys first title in 52 years. It's the first time in school history that the boys and girls brought home the district championship in the same season.
