A Mossyrock man who allegedly broke into a home in April and threatened its occupants with a screwdriver and ax was sentenced Wednesday to eight months.

James C. Long, 61, of Mossyrock, pleaded guilty on June 2 in Lewis County Superior Court to third-degree assault, residential burglary, domestic violence and violation of a court order.

At 1:55 a.m., on April 22 the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 hangup call coming from the 100 block of Naylor Road in Mossyrock.

According to court documents, witnesses reported that Long entered the home by breaking the latch on the back door, while brandishing a long screwdriver and an ax.

One occupant a 52-year-old Randle man, confronted Long, who allegedly tried to attack him with the weapons.

The man, who had cuts and scrapes but was not seriously injured, managed to get Long out of the back door again. Long allegedly fled in his truck, according to the Sheriff’s Office, ramming another car in the process.

He was arrested at 2:33 p.m. after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 12 in Mossyrock, and booked into the Lewis County Jail.

Long was prohibited from contacting the home’s primary resident, a 53-year-old woman, after he was arrested on fourth-degree assault and gun charges for another incident at the residence on April 2 that ended with a standoff with the Lewis County SWAT Team.

He bailed out of the jail on April 21, and was accused of breaking into the Mossyrock house less than 12 hours later.
