A fast start and a dominant defensive effort helped Mossyrock take down Montesano 55-28 in the Vikings’ season opener on Tuesday in Montesano.

“We played pretty well tonight and I was happy with the effort,” Mossyrock coach Nick Rashoff said. “We definitely have some areas to clean up but for the first game of the year we will take it … Hopefully we can keep building on this game.”

The Vikings jumped out on top early with 21 points in the first before eventually adding 35 in the second half, and on the defensive side, they limited the Bulldogs to just 16 total points over the final three frames.

Adyson Barrows led the Vikings with 15 points, while Taylor Schwartz and Maci Rashoff both hit double digits with 13 and 11, respectively. Calliope Schultz added nine.

Mossyrock (1-0) will be on the road again on Thursday, when it will face Toutle Lake.
