For the first time since 1972, the Mossyrock Vikings are district champions. The Vikings dismantled Naselle on Saturday in Montesano, returning to the top with a 79-35 win in the 1B District 4 title game.

“It has been a long time coming,” Mossyrock assistant coach Kelly Ross said. “This was a complete team win.”

The Vikings (16-6) were in control early, leading by nine after one, but they quickly began to pull away before the first half was even over. By halftime, the lead was up to 22, and after three, they led by 29.

The offense got better as the game went along, as Mossyrock scored more points in each quarter, culminating in a 23-point fourth that forced officials to implement the running clock.

Zack Munoz led the team with 21 points and he also tallied six assists and five steals, while sophomore Tyce Vigre added 19 points.

Easton Kolb secured a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and he also logged four steals and four assists, and Luke Cooper finished with 10 points, four assists and three rebounds.

“From top to bottom, all of our players have been working hard to reach this team goal and it all came together tonight,” Ross said. “We are extremely proud of our players, our coaching staff, and our community, and to bring this home to Mossyrock is really special.”
