A woman accused of hitting another woman in the face with a propane tank, breaking her nose, at a Morton residence on Wednesday has been charged with second-degree assault in Lewis County Superior Court.
Catrina Marie Peters, 39, of Morton, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at approximately 9:52 a.m. on Feb. 26 after the victim reported the assault to the Morton Police Department.
According to the victim, she and a few others, including Peters, were at a friend’s house in the 100 block of First Street in Morton earlier that day to help the friend.
After some time, a few of the guests left, and the victim “sat down on the couch and dozed off,” according to charging documents.
Peters then allegedly “smashed (the victim) in the face with a smaller, green Coleman propane tank,” according to charging documents.
The homeowner reportedly confirmed that Peters and the victim were at her residence and said she was turned away when “she heard a thump and turned around” to see Peters leaving and the victim “crying and bleeding,” according to court documents.
Peters was allegedly heard saying “something to (the victim) about ‘that was for sleeping with her (Peters’) girlfriend,” according to court documents.
The homeowner reportedly “noted that there was some tension earlier due to allegations of (the victim) sleeping with Peters’ girlfriend.”
The victim received medical treatment at a hospital, where it was determined she had sustained a closed nasal fracture with comminuted fracture of the bilateral nasal bones and bony nasal septum with rightward deviation, according to court documents.
When questioned by an officer, Peters allegedly “advised she didn’t know anything about the event but did note that she does not like (the victim) because she slept with her girlfriend,” according to court documents. She allegedly denied being at the First Street residence that day.
Peters was charged Thursday, Feb. 27, in Lewis County Superior Court with one count of second-degree assault, which is a class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Her bail is set at $25,000.
Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, March 6.
