In a game that could have locked up a top-three finish for the Timberwolves in the C2BL East, too many costly penalties foiled the plans and the Ducks eked out a 26-22 victory on Friday night in Toutle.
If MWP (3-5, 1-3) beats Mossyrock on Thursday and Onalaska upends Toutle Lake, those two plus Rainier will all finish 2-3 in the league. That would result in a coin flip between the three schools that will take place the following day.
Whoever is fourth and fifth will hit the road for the Week 10 crossover. The third place team could host Coupeville out of District 1.
“This may mean nothing next week,” T-Wolves head coach Lee Metcalf said. “Proud of the effort, played really hard (but) didn’t play smart.”
Toutle Lake took the lead on a TD by Dominic Rivera with over nine minutes left in regulation. MWP got into Ducks territory, then turned it over on downs. It never was able to find the game-winning score.
Kohen Ingalsbe had three scores of 40, 63 and 25-yards respectively for the Timberwolves. Metcalf admitted he won’t need to find much motivation for what's on the line next week.
“Last game at White Pass and last home game for MWP. Little pride on the line,” he stated.
