Morton earned its spot in the 1B State Tournament on Saturday, when the Huskies defeated Crescent 76-22 in a 1B District 4 Crossover.
“I thought we played pretty well today,” Morton coach Lee Metcalf said “Pretty complete game.”
Morton built a massive lead early, scoring 30 points in the second before adding 24 in the second to go into the locker room up 54-14.
“I was pretty happy with the fast start,” Metcalf said. “That’s something we stressed all week. It’s lose or go home the rest of the way, and we wanted to impose our will early.”
With a running clock in the second half, the Huskies were still able to tack on, scoring 14 in the third before ending the day with an eight-point fourth.
Liam Pelleter ran for 206 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries, while Logan Mays ran for 189 yards and five touchdowns on 20 rushes. Mays also scored on a kickoff return touchdown.
Defensively, the Huskies only allowed 100 total yards, and they forced five turnovers (two interceptions and three fumbles).
Morton (7-2) will learn its state tournament seed and opponent in the Round of 16 on Sunday, when the WIAA releases the brackets.
“It’s just where fate lands us now,” Metcalf said. “We’ll see what the selection committee says. We’ll see what happens.”
