More than 40 displaced in Everett apartment fire

Forty-one people were displaced when multiple units in an Everett apartment complex caught fire Monday morning, firefighters said.

Crews responded to a fire at the CentrePointe Apartments on 18th Avenue West around 4:30 a.m. to find smoke and flames, the Everett Fire Department reported on Facebook.

One resident had minor injuries and was treated at the complex. Another was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, the fire department reported.

About half of the people displaced were children, American Red Cross Northwest Region spokesperson Kristin Goodwillie said.

The organization said 10 units were left “either uninhabitable or with major damage.”

Red Cross staff are helping residents find a place to stay, which could entail setting up hotel rooms or an emergency shelter, Goodwillie said. Some families are staying with loved ones while others are staying in the complex’s leasing office, where cots have been set up.
