The body of a 19-year-old man from Yelm, Thurston County, was found in Lake Washington on Thursday, two weeks after he went missing off a boat during Seafair, police say.
The man was found 150 feet underwater in Lake Washington after investigators tracked his cellphone, then used side-scan sonar and a remotely operated vehicle during the search, Mercer Island police said.
He was declared missing July 31 when police say he might have fallen off the back of a boat after spending the day on the water, watching the Seafair air show and hydroplane races.
He had told the other passengers he had to use the bathroom as the boat got up to planing speed, leaving the log boom area between Seattle and Mercer Island, but when they reached the other side of the Interstate 90 floating bridge and slowed down, they noticed he was gone.
The other passengers searched for about five minutes before calling 911 at 10:40 p.m.
The body was taken to the King County medical examiner’s office, which will later release his cause and manner of death.
There is no suspicion of foul play, Mercer Island police acting Chief Jeff Magnan said.
