Missing Since 2009: Nancy Moyer’s Case Remains Unsolved After 13 Years

Family of Missing Thurston County Woman Are Still Hoping for Answers

Posted

March 6 is a bitter anniversary for the friends and family of Nancy Moyer, as it marks the day her family suspects she went missing in 2009.

Nancy was last seen purchasing items from a Tenino market at 6:45 p.m. on March 6, 2009.

Two days later, Nancy’s husband went to drop off the couple’s two children at Nancy’s Tenino home to find it was empty. The door was ajar, the TV was on, a glass of red wine sat on a table and Moyer’s credit cards, purse and identification were all still inside — but Nancy herself was gone.

She was officially declared missing at 5 p.m. on March 8, 2009.

This year marks the 13th anniversary of Nancy’s disappearance, but despite years of effort from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office to solve Nancy’s case, her family remains without answers.

The closest the Moyer family came to getting closure was July 2019, when a man named Eric Roberts reportedly confessed to Nancy’s murder. But Roberts recanted his confession and, without adequate evidence to support Roberts’ initial claims, Nancy’s case remained unsolved.

“We are still holding onto hope for her case to be solved and for Nancy, our family, and the community to get answers,” said Nancy’s daughter Sam Moyer. “These 13 years have been hard on me, I just want my mom. But I have hope that her case will be solved one day and I will not give up hope,” she said.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is still actively investigating Nancy’s case.

Investigators are currently waiting for items to go through DNA testing, Sam said.

To raise awareness for her mom’s case, Sam runs the Facebook page “Where is Nancy Moyer?” and encourages people to use the hashtag #whereisnancymoyer on posts related to the case.

Sam hopes to take her mom’s case to CrimeCon in Las Vegas later this year and is looking for donations to help fund future efforts to raise awareness for the case.

Donations would go toward banners, posters, fliers, events, reward money for information on the case, and potentially a billboard.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance is encouraged to contact Thurston County Detective Mickey Hamilton at 360-786-5500.

There is a reward of up to $30,000 available for anyone who provides information that helps law enforcement solve Nancy’s case.
