Missed opportunities haunt Onalaska in loss to Kalama

The Onalaska boys soccer team had their chances late to tie things up against Kalama, but the Loggers were unable to find a late equalizer in their 3-2 loss.

“We definitely could’ve and should’ve won this one,” Onalaska coach Luis Magana said. “But like I told the boys, opportunities we don’t take advantage of will haunt us in the end. In this game, it definitely did.”

The Loggers got the upper hand early, creating a pair of chances in the first five minutes before eighth-grader Akel Iverson connected on a free kick in the seventh minute for his second goal of the season.

Kalama was able to score twice to take the lead before the break, and the Chinooks made it 3-1 early in the second half.

In the 55th minute, Adrian Garcia drew a foul in the box, and Noland Brady stepped up and sank the penalty kick for his fourth goal of the year to make it 3-2.

Onalaska had three chances in the final 20 minutes, but the Kalama keeper made a save, and the other two shots just missed the net.

The Loggers finished the day with seven shots against Kalama’s 10, and Christofer James ended the evening with four saves.

“We had our clear chances,” Magana said. “We didn’t take advantage.”

Onalaska (0-6, 0-6 1A Trico) will be back on the road on Wednesday, when it will head to La Center to face the Wildcats.
