The stage has officially been set for anglers hoping to catch one of Mineral Lake’s famous “10-pound trout,” as pre-registration for the 33rd annual Mineral Lake Fishing Derby is now open, according to a Mineral Lake Lions Club news release.

The derby will commence at just after midnight at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 25. Weigh-ins begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday and end at 11 a.m. on Sunday, with the winners and prizes announced shortly after at noon.

Pre-registration is required for boaters in accordance with the Washington State Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Decontamination regulations. Boaters must complete an AIS decontamination statement and decontamination report, with forms available at registration.

All derby participants — whether they are fishing from a boat or kayak on Mineral Lake or fishing from the shoreline or docks — must purchase a derby ticket before casting their lines in the lake.

Boat pre-registration can be completed and tickets can be purchased at the Lions/Legion Community Building at 108 E. Front St. in Mineral starting on Friday, April 24, from noon to midnight, and April 25 from 5 to 8 a.m.

For those who miss the derby’s start, boat registration and ticket purchases can still be done at the Mineral Lake Lions Den Campground, located at 113 E. Front St., from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 7 to 10 a.m. on Sunday.

No ticket sales will be done at the State Boat Launch just off of Mineral Hill Road.

“Due to limited cellular service in Mineral, attendees are strongly encouraged to bring cash for derby tickets, raffles, vendor market items, and food and beverage purchases,” the release added.

Up to $5,000 in prizes will be available. Prizes in the past have included kayaks, fishing rods, filet knives, outboard trolling boat motors and guided fishing trips.

Additionally, during the derby, Pacific Northwest country music artist Mason Gaul will perform live at the campground.

On Saturday, multiple food trucks will be on hand at the campground along with a kid’s trout pond, and campground staff will also hold a movie night.
