The state Department of Transportation has scheduled nighttime closures for an exit in Centralia this week for those traveling northbound on Interstate 5.
Contractor crews working for the department will close the northbound I-5 off-ramp to Mellen Street, Exit 81, to grind and repave worn pavement. The purpose of the project is to create a smoother ride for drivers.
The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Mellen Street will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday until Thursday. From Thursday until Friday, the ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
All work is weather-dependent and is part of the I-5 Mellen to Blakeslee Junction project scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. The project aims to make safety improvements to the Mellen Street and Harrison Avenue interchanges, and widen and realign the I-5 curve at Blakeslee Junction.
