Measles exposure reported at Ridgefield High School, Clark County medical clinic

People who were at Ridgefield High School in mid-January may have been exposed to measles, Clark County Public Health announced Friday.

A person who has tested positive for measles was at the high school in southwest Washington on January 14, 15 and 16, officials said. People who were at The Vancouver Clinic’s Ridgefield Clinic, at 5515 Pioneer Street, between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. on January 21 also may have been exposed to measles.

These are the latest exposure sites in the Portland metro area in January.

Earlier in the week, Oregon Health officials said people who visited Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center’s emergency department on Jan. 16 from about 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. may have been exposed to measles.

There have been two reported measles cases in Clackamas County and four total in Oregon in 2026.

Measles is among the most contagious viruses and spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Virus particles can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area. The disease can cause serious complications and even lead to death, though fatalities are relatively rare.

The Pan American Health Organization declared measles eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, but that elimination status is now in doubt due to falling vaccination rates in the country.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 2,144 confirmed cases nationwide in 2025, including three deaths.
