McMenamins Olympic Club to Host Eight-Hour Brewfest Featuring Northwest Brews, Food and Music

Posted

Beer lovers take note: The 15th annual Olympic Club Brewfest opens at noon on Saturday at the Olympic Club in Centralia. Featuring brews from McMenamins’ Washington breweries, five Washington breweries and an importer, the event promises eight hours of beer-loving fun for even the most discerning imbiber.

Featured breweries and their beers include Centralia’s own Dick’s Brewing Co. with their IPA and Scottish Ale, Diamond Knot Brewing Co. of Mukilteo with their IPA and Brown Ale, Scuttlebutt Brewing Co. of Everett with Homeport Blonde and Belgian Night, Fish Brewing Co. of Olympia with Swordfish CDA and Spire Mountain Dark and Dry Cider, and Elliot Bay Brewing Co. of Burien with One Hop Pale Ale and Red Von Boorian.

Merchant du Vin Importers of Tukwila will bring Celebrator Doppelbock and Lindemans Pomme Lambic. New to beer or don’t like the taste of “regular” beer? Try the Lindemans Pomme Lambic, a spontaneously fermented beer bursting with the taste of crisp green apple.

See the sidebar “2011 Featured Beers” for more details on the beers each brewery will be offering at the brewfest.

Music will start at 7 p.m. and run after the beer stops pouring until 11 p.m. The Blackberry Bushes, an Americana quartet from Olympia, will play at 7 p.m., and The Pagan Jug Band, a sextet from Portland, will play at 9 p.m.

Tours of the Olympic Club will be available throughout the day.

An outdoor seating area will include an open-pit barbecue with bratwurst, tri-tip steak and burgers with baked beans available for purchase.

Instead of punch cards like in the past, this year’s Brewfest will have tokens for sale for $1 each. One token can be traded for a sample of beer. Admission to the event and music is free.

Participants of the brewery tour and tasting must be 21. For more information, call the Olympic Club at 736-5164.
