Marzolf paces Tenino boys to third place finish

A new lifetime best of 18 minutes, 44.39 seconds from junior Josiah Marzolf slotted him fourth overall in the varsity boys race as the Beavers’ top runner in a Class 1A Evergreen League meet at Hoquiam on Wednesday afternoon.

It allowed Tenino to accumulate 71 points to place third behind Elma (46) and Montesano (51). Rochester piled up 112 points to take fifth place in the team race. Tenino had three others in the top-20, led by Justin Schlesner in 11th at 19:27.26. Sevrin Mickelson took 15th and Porter Mowry was 19th. Clarke Hanna finished as the fifth runner in 23rd place.

Rochester had a runner finish in the top-10, sophomore Kian Christiansen placed ninth in 19:24.98 for a new season-best time. Nicholas Blankenship and Zachariah Hubbard finished 24th and 27th, respectively, while Jaxton Reese (35th) and Samuel Gornushhenko (36th) were separated by 17 seconds.



Montesano and Tenino were the only two teams on the girls side to have enough runners for a team score, with the Bulldogs winning 15-48. The Beavers’ top finisher was senior Haley Huber, seventh overall in 24:22.88. Chloe Suess was 12th while Aurora Johnson (17th), Athena Causland (18th), Taylor Henry (19th) and Isabel Steketee (21st) either set PR’s or season-best times.

Rochester only had three girls, but all finished in the top-15. Seraschel Aldrich was 11th in 26:13.97 while freshmen Ari Longmire and Bree Benner made their 5,000-meter debuts to place 13th and 14th, respectively.
