The man who threatened to blow up an Amtrak train in Woodland earlier this year has been sentenced to 90 days in Cowlitz County Jail.

According to court records, Court Commissioner Stephen Warning accepted the peal deal for Joseph Thomas Zito, 43, on June 5. He pleaded guilty to one count of making threats to bomb or injure property.

Woodland police responded on Jan. 24 to the intersection of Davidson Avenue and Goerig Road, according to a police report, where a halted Amtrak train remained still at a railroad crossing.

An unruly passenger, later identified as Zito, was making threats to blow up the train and kill people, dispatch had told police.

One witness told authorities Zito said “he would kill us all,” that he had a bomb, and would also “kill everyone in China and Afghanistan.”

Zito was detained after he exited the train and told the arresting officers his comments were intended to be a joke.
