One man was evaluated by emergency medical personnel for possible injuries after he and three dogs escaped a house fire in the 300 block of N Street just off West First Street in Centralia on Thursday.

None of the dogs were injured.

Fire crews with the Riverside Fire Authority were dispatched to the fire at 4:22 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, according to Riverside Fire Chief Kevin Anderson.

The Chehalis Fire Department, American Medical Response and the Centralia Police Department also responded. Crews were primarily stationed in the 1000 block of West First Street.

“The subject, he got himself out, so there wasn’t a rescue scenario,” Anderson said.

Crews deployed a single hand line through the front door and successfully extinguished the fire, which likely originated in a room near the garage, Anderson said.

“I believe at this point it is contained to the room of origin, possibly with some extension into a hallway or one other room for actual flame damage,” Anderson said of the fire shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday.

At the time, crews were working their way through the rest of the house “to confirm there’s no hidden fire” in the walls or elsewhere in the house, Anderson said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officers with the Centralia Police Department blocked off a section of West First Street, affecting afternoon traffic on Harrison Avenue and West First Street, while fire crews fought the fire Thursday.
