A 41-year-old man killed his father in Parkland on Friday night, according to the Pierce County sheriff's office.
Deputies found a 63-year-old man with gunshot wounds around 8 p.m. in a home within the 4200 block of 142nd Street Court South, according to a blotter post. The son barricaded himself inside a bedroom, but surrendered after 20 minutes.
Deputies attempted to treat the father, but he died at the scene.
There does appear to be a mental health component for the suspect, the blotter said.
Homicide detectives were investigating.
