A man and a woman in a red passenger van were seen behaving suspiciously around the Toutle Lake School District campus and bus stops Thursday, Superintendent Chris Schumaker announced in a letter to students’ parents and guardians.
District staff notified the sheriff’s office, according to the notice.
Bus drivers plan to report any sightings of the van to the school, which will notify the sheriff’s office, and students will not be let off the bus if the van is spotted near their stop. If that happens, the school will contact parents to arrange an alternate pick-up plan.
The man was spotted Wednesday driving in and out of the campus parking lot and repeatedly passed the school while yelling about the recent presidential election and raising his fist out the window, Schumaker told The Daily News.
The next day, he was seen parking in several places in the parking lot and talking to staff. Bus drivers reported the van was stopped at a bus stop at one point. Some staff members also said the man was interacting with them through a Facebook group, Schumaker said.
Schumaker was not sure what the man said to the staff members he spoke with. He had not heard anything specific about the woman, he said.
Sgt. Cory Robinson said the sheriff’s office received a call that a man was yelling political statements at students waiting for the bus, but there was no evidence that a crime had been committed.
Schumaker said the man was yelling in favor of President-elect Donald Trump, but Robinson said he received reports of the man speaking negatively about Trump.
